Empowerment, Education, Enterprise
We work with the Building and Construction ITO to develop our Pacific trades workforce, coordinate work experience and organise training plans. BCITO is the largest provider of construction trade apprenticeships in New Zealand. They are appointed by the government to develop and implement industry qualifications for the building and construction sector.
Competenz is a multi-sector Industry Training Organisation (ITO) that designs and manages technical and business qualifications to make sure the New Zealand workforce is highly skilled. Every year, they work with over 3,500 businesses in 37 industries, helping over 20,000 people develop their skills on the job. OCA works with Competenz to develop our Pacific trades workforce, coordinate work experience and organise training plans.
OCA is part of the Southern Initiative, a consortium of partners involving Auckland City Council, Industry Employers such as Hawkins, Stevensons and McConnell Dowell, and Industry Training Organisations.
OCA is involved in the Maori and Pasifika Trades Training Initiative (MPTTI), a programme enabling more Maori and Pasifika learners, aged 18-34, to obtain meaningful trade apprenticeships and qualifications.
Te Kura is a distance education provider offering personalised learning programmes to students from early childhood to Year 13. OCA works in partnership with Te Kura to provide career pathways in trades to their interested students.
The Skills Organisation works alongside New Zealand industries to help people gain the skills they need for development and success in their workplace. Their industries of focus include specialist trades such as pumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying, scaffolding, rigging and industrial rope access, telecommunications, real estate, small business and financial services.
We work with polytechnics and tertiary providers to coordinate the transition from trades training at OCA into higher education. We communicate and coordinate student interest and needs with provider courses and school holiday programmes.
